Shaila-Ann Rao has rejoined the FIA, taking up the role of advisor to President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. This appointment marks Rao’s return to the motorsport governing body for a third time, where she aims to leverage her legal expertise.

Professional Background

Rao has a significant career history with the FIA, previously serving as legal director from May 2016 until December 2018. After her initial departure, she worked as general counsel at the Mercedes Formula 1 team and later supported team principal Toto Wolff as a special advisor. She made a brief return in 2022, serving as interim secretary general for motorsport.

New Role and Focus

Starting May 1, 2025, Rao will provide advisory support to President Ben Sulayem, addressing various regulatory and commercial issues related to the FIA’s seven world championships.
