George Russell is expected to secure a new contract with Mercedes worth approximately $30 million per year, reflecting his rising status in Formula 1. This new deal may extend for two years with an option to continue through 2028.

Current Contract and Season Performance

Russell’s existing contract runs until the end of 2025, but given his solid performance at the start of the season, he is likely to be rewarded with a considerable extension. After the initial four races, he currently sits fourth in the drivers’ championship, just short of McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Podium Finishes Boost Confidence

Russell has secured three podium finishes, including a commendable second place in the recent Bahrain Grand Prix, positioning himself as a key driver for the Mercedes team alongside rookie Kimi Antonelli.

Mercedes’ Focus Amid Driver Changes

Amid speculation surrounding other drivers, team principal Toto Wolff has reassured that their focus remains on developing their existing talents like Russell and Antonelli. Despite linked rumors about Max Verstappen joining Mercedes, Wolff has indicated that Verstappen’s situation is not under consideration at present.

Challenges Ahead

As the season progresses, Russell and his team will face challenges from emerging competitors, particularly McLaren, who have shown strong early-season performance. It will be crucial for Mercedes to maintain their competitive edge and fully leverage Russell’s capabilities.
