Bayern Faces Defensive Injury Crisis
Significant Injury Concerns at Bayern
Bayern Munich is currently facing a challenging situation with several key players sidelined due to injuries. The club’s defensive lineup has been particularly affected, raising concerns about their performance in the remaining matches of the season.
Latest Setbacks for Hiroki Ito
Hiroki Ito, the 25-year-old center-back who joined Bayern from Stuttgart this summer, has had a troubled start since transitioning to the team. After missing the first half of the season due to a metatarsal fracture, he returned to the pitch in February. Unfortunately, following a recent league match, Ito has suffered another foot fracture, prolonging his time away from competition.
Other Crucial Defensive Injuries
Alongside Ito, Bayern’s defensive roster has been severely impacted. Alphonso Davies has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a torn cruciate ligament he sustained while representing Canada in March. Dayot Upamecano is also on the injury list, having undergone knee surgery which is expected to keep him off the pitch for an estimated three months. Additionally, veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer’s availability for the Champions League quarter-finals against Inter Milan remains uncertain as he continues to recover from a calf strain.
Upcoming Matches amid Challenges
The Champions League ties against Inter Milan are scheduled for April 8 and 16, presenting a significant test for Bayern’s squad depth. Despite being shorthanded, Bayern currently leads the Bundesliga, holding a six-point advantage over Bayer Leverkusen with only seven matches remaining in the season.
