New Position for Jarmo Kekalainen

The Buffalo Sabres have confirmed the hiring of Jarmo Kekalainen as a senior advisor. In this role, Kekalainen will report to the team’s General Manager, Kevyn Adams, and will be involved in multiple facets of the franchise’s hockey operations.

Kekalainen’s Experience

Kekalainen brings a wealth of experience following his eleven-year tenure with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He played a significant role during notable moments for the franchise, including several playoff appearances and the team’s inaugural playoff series win. Although his time with the Blue Jackets concluded in February 2024, his extensive background in scouting and international hockey is expected to enhance the Sabres’ operations.

Working with Kevyn Adams

General Manager Kevyn Adams expressed confidence in Kekalainen’s ability to bolster the team’s hockey operations. Having previously collaborated at Columbus, their partnership is anticipated to foster a productive environment aimed at improving the Sabres’ performance, particularly given that the team has not reached the playoffs since 2011.

Future Directions

Kekalainen’s appointment might signify a change in the Sabres’ strategy regarding player development and decisions. As the season approaches, the focus will shift towards implementing strategies designed to enhance the team’s competitiveness. Kekalainen’s goal is to introduce new perspectives while working with the existing staff to effectively address upcoming challenges.
